This is a review for an EDP version of Where the Wild Things Grow (Version 1)

I got this edp to try out from Sorce because I liked version 2 but that one is special order (which hasn’t been open all year and will next be available in June for 2 days(!!)) and I wanted something available year round. 

Notes: Late spring strawberries still on the vine, vanilla cream soda, fresh green grass with morning dew, and ambrette seed

Version 1 is supposed to be the more gourmand version, whereas Version 2 leans more into the dirt and grass smell. Both use the same ingredients I believe, just in different quantities. What I liked about the second version which is the one I tried first, was the balance between fruity and green. I wanted to try all perfumes that smelled like soil and grass. Now, I am looking at trying more gourmands and other types of smells. I also kinda decided that I don’t super want to smell like soil often, and version 2 did give me a strong soil dry down. 

The perfume is a deep green color, deeper in color than than any of my other perfumes. I am curious to know what the oil format looks like. According to the site, this is due to the raspberry leaf absolute which can also vary in color (I assume depending on harvested batches and what not). I wonder if the raspberry leaf smells like berries! I like the color a lot, it reminds me of pineward (I haven’t purchased from them yet) and I didn’t notice any staining though I wonder what it would be like with a rollerball and light colored fabric.

Side note: I really appreciate how thorough Sorce is with listing 1) allergens and ingredients that should be listed that I don’t see most indie places do, and 2) natural ingredients of interest used, which isn’t a necessity but it is nice to know that info! I feel like it helps sell me on it and also suggests more on what this scent might be like. 

Review of the perfume: This perfume really smells like sugary, strawberry gummy candy! I know a realistic strawberry smell is hard to nail and this isn’t that, but it smells so good. It is realistic and sweet-but-also-sour fruity candy. I definitely get the cream soda as well, not just straight powerful vanilla like in many Sorce perfumes, but a unique, cream soda note. I was getting whiffs of this all day and it lasted my entire shift. I can also pick out the green and dirt notes after it has dried down. I was most worried I would not be able to smell those notes since this is the more gourmand version but I am pleased to report that it does still come through. I think the damp grass and soil smell makes things more interesting and wearable than straight strawberry sugar. Aaaaand I don’t know what ambrette seed smells like, but from what I gather, its a sweet musky scent so it is probably blended into the background and I don’t pick it up but it is supporting.

This scent reminds me of bringing gummy candy and cute sodas to a picnic when it’s nice out and sitting on a classic red and white gingham blanket in the grass, with a focus on the fruity gourmand aspects and then the grass in the background. It is such a perfect spring and summer time scent. 

I’ve noticed there is not a lot of strawberry scents in indie perfumes (or at least the ones I’ve looked at) and they don’t seem to be as popular as other scents. When Sorce opened back up in 2026 and things were selling out, I saw that WTWTG was one of the last ones to sell out. Honestly, this kind of enticed me more because I knew I liked this scent already from the special order version 2 I had, so I felt better about being interested in something that wont be hard to buy and available year round. So I am glad I tried this version as well, and I am glad I like it. I might buy a rollerball in the future.
